The Real Discovery
It was late
in the night and I was staring at the stars from the window in my room. The
stars looked very bright than they did on any other night. I was just wondering
if the stars that I were seeing really existed or not, because I knew we might
be seeing the star which had already died. Looking into my star map, I was
trying to locate the star Sirius, which was my favorite one. My mom just then
entered in and asked what I wanted for breakfast the next day. I was thinking
if I should have poori or dhosa. Finally, I decided to go with dhosa. My mom
then left the room. And I went back to star gazing as though the stars were
waiting for me.
Deep into star gazing, I felt I want to go there. I had been longing to see the outer space for a very long-time. I wanted to accompany my mom in her space travel at least this time. Yes, my mom is an astronaut and she is going on a space exploration the very next week. She is the mission specialist in the crew. I had heard her talking over the phone about the new planet discovery. I was really excited and somehow wanted to join her. I felt I should talk with my mom about this. I hope she takes me with her this time.
My mom on seeing me, "Hey Ayesha! Haven't you slept yet?" "No mom. I am not sleepy and....." "What is it, honey?" "Mom, I want to join you on your voyage this time. Please don’t say a no to me... You very well know that, right from my childhood, it has been a longing for me to experience the outer space. I know that you are on the path to find a better planet for human beings to live on. Why should not I join you?" My mom said, "That is right darling! But how can I take you with me!" "Mom, am not a kid anymore and I am about to complete my degree in Aerospace Engineering in a couple of months. Also, I have been undergoing so much training as a part of my project, which will really help me to work it out in the spaceflight. I know you would be concerned about the short time frame to catch it up. But you don't need to worry. I am ready to learn new stuffs. I am sure that I can help you with your mission and I want to be a part of it.
My mom kept silent for a while and I became restless on what she was about to say. She smiled and said, "Honey! You know what, this time I myself thought to take you... If you are this much interested, then am sure I can take you with us. But there is a lot of training needed. Let us start it by tomorrow morning. And you need to put in some real hard work. We are there to train you. I am glad that you wanted to explore. You will have plenty to learn in the training and in the outer world too. Life is a learning process after all!" Oh my god! I had no words. Wooohooo! I am going to the outer space! My dream is going to come true! "Thank you so much mom." I was jumping with excitement. The team along with my mom trained me so well and I got completely involved in it that it was simply awesome. It was a wonderful learning experience for me.
The commander Krishna spoke, "As we all know, our mission is to find if there is a better and safer planet to live on. We have recently discovered a new planet, which on looked through a telescope, looks similar to Earth. But it seems to have more water than Earth. When we ourselves go there, it would be possible for more findings and easier conclusions. And it looks not that risky too. Though there were suggestions to send an unmanned spaceflight, we have chosen to step out ourselves into the new planet. We are setting out on our mission well equipped and I hope we find the solution. Good luck everyone!"
And the day had come. We were all set to start our journey. We were in our space vehicle and the countdown was nearing the time of launch… T-5 seconds... T-4... T-3… T-2… T-1… T-0... Lift off! There we went high into the air... Zoom... It felt more or less like an earthquake. It was a different experience for me. Within few minutes, we escaped Earth's gravity and began to float. After few days, we were about to reach the new unnamed planet. We were nearing it and finally, we had reached. At the place of landing, to our shocking surprise there was no water! After long hours of search, we could not even find a single drop of water. I knew that it was not an easy mission and it needs patience. Yes, I was trying to be cool. Everyone was starting to feel exhausted though. The place had no oxygen too as our Earth did. We had to depend only on the oxygen that we had brought with us.
We began to wonder then what must that blue color be, which we had seen through the telescope if that was not water! I felt these space missions are far more interesting than the boring history and geography classes that I had in my school days. I wished it would be amazing if all the students were taken to some outer planet as a trip. He he! I knew that would not work. But am lucky enough! Ok, now back to our mission. Each and everyone in the crew was looking hard to find if there was some material on the planet which had left the footprints of previous life or any single possibility to sustain life.
When everyone was thinking deeply what could be done, all of a sudden there came a very loud bang from our space vehicle! No one knew what was happening. We were trying to sort out the problem. Before we could sort it out, an even louder bang was heard. And I could not see anyone around me. It became totally dark! I could hear my mom calling me "Ayesha!" My mom wanted to make sure that she is nearby and she is there to protect me though none of us was sure if we would return back to Earth safely. That is the love of a mom! I fainted and lost my consciousness.
Amidst the bangs and darkness, fainted I am. It was silence within me, complete silence... Very calm... Within me, I felt like I have got the solution. I felt that our Earth is the best planet that can ever be. Our planet takes care of us so well just like a mom does her child. Our planet has enough of oxygen for us to take a deep happy breathe in, which one cannot get in any other planet. The trees are just amazing. They just take in carbon dioxide and make our life easier. I think no other planet can do such amazing wonders. Our planet has even more in stock for us. But what are we doing in return? We just chop the trees, pollute the wonderful atmosphere and the lovely planet that we have and keep searching for a better planet! Oh my! What a fool are we! My travel to this new planet has given me the answer –
There can never be a better planet than our lovely Earth!

I am really sorry for all the troubles that you are facing because of us.
